Ultrafiltration is the workhorse of the seawater-treatment train — removing suspended particles, bacteria, and organic material before water reaches the sulphate-removal and deaeration stages. In partnership with 3M, Odda Plast AS, and Lørenskog Kommune, Vulkan is pioneering the offshorization of the Liqui-Flux™ UF membrane inside a certified pressure vessel.
The inside-out filtration architecture enables cross-flow cleaning, eliminates the need for air during backflush, and delivers superior, stable filtration efficiency — protecting the high-value membranes downstream from fouling and extending their service life.
How It Works
Feed water flows through the lumen of the hollow fibres from the inside out; contaminants are retained while clean permeate passes through the membrane wall. Periodic cross-flow and backflush cycles lift the fouling layer, sustaining flux and normalized flow resistance over long offshore duty cycles.
