Sulphate in injected seawater reacts with reservoir cations to form barium and strontium scale, and feeds sulphate-reducing bacteria that generate corrosive, toxic H₂S. Vulkan's sulphate-removal systems use nanofiltration membranes to remove sulphate before injection — protecting both well integrity and production chemistry.
Our team has designed more than 10 complete sulphate-removal systems for offshore installations worldwide, each tuned to operate as an integral component of the full seawater-treatment chain rather than a standalone unit.
How It Works
Pre-filtered seawater is driven through sulphate-selective nanofiltration membranes under pressure. Sulphate ions are rejected while permeate continues to deaeration and injection. CIP and biocide cycles, monitored against project-phase baselines, sustain normalized pressure drop and recovery over the system’s life.
