Wisting FPSO FEED & C-Study
A seawater treatment concept developed for a high-latitude FPSO, covering ultrafiltration, sulphate removal, deaeration, and chemical treatment.
Frontier Development, Proven Process Design
Vulkan delivered the seawater-treatment FEED for the Wisting FPSO in 2022 — bringing membrane and process expertise to one of the most northerly developments on the Norwegian shelf. The project was subsequently postponed, but is now progressing through a C-study phase with Vulkan's continued involvement — keeping the process design current and ready for the next phase.
The Challenge
Wisting is located in the Barents Sea, where offshore systems must be designed for demanding operating conditions and long-term reliability. The seawater treatment concept also needed to remain technically mature through a changing project timeline, allowing the engineering work to continue efficiently as the development progressed through different phases.
The Vulkan Solution
Vulkan delivered the seawater treatment FEED in 2022, providing membrane and process engineering for the overall treatment system. Following the project pause, Vulkan has remained involved in the current study phase, helping maintain engineering continuity and keeping the treatment concept ready for further development.
- Ultrafiltration
- Sulphate removal
- Deaeration
- Continued C-study involvement
- Membrane and process design
The Result
The project has a mature seawater treatment concept supported by engineering work carried forward from FEED into the current study phase. Maintaining continuity between the different project stages helps preserve technical knowledge and provides a stronger foundation for future detailed engineering and execution.
